Courtice, Ontario - 20/5/2010 - On May 13th, The Rotary Club of Courtice hosted the 1st Annual Clarington Youth and Community Leadership Dinner. This exciting new event was focused on inspiring youth to become an active part of their community and to recognize youth already involved in their school and community. Fifteen young citizens from across Clarington were recognized for their public service by the Rotary Club of Courtice and Michael Clemons. The dinner was focused at bringing together community leaders, service organizations and other members of the community to mingle with our young people and to help inspire them to get involved in making their community a better place. The highlight of the evening was the motivational address delivered by Michael “Pinball” Clemons. Clemons, who is known for his dynamic speaking style, was both entertaining and inspiring as he, spoke about the importance of cultivating young leaders and how their role can impact the building of a community.
The Rotary Club of Courtice recently partnered with the Michael “Pinball” Clemons Foundation to build a school in the developing world, as part of the Foundation’s commitment to build 131 schools for Free the Children. Founded by a 12-year old Craig Kielberger in 1995, Free the Children has tackled issues ranging from third world poverty to child labour. The organization has also built more than 500 schools throughout the developing world.
